Wonderful discussion of maybe my favorite point of view (though I don't often use it). I like to think of omniscient as more like omnipotent--in the sense that the author isn't always using "god voice", but -can- because they can do whatever they want. The main thing is not to confuse the reader, not to bounce around too much. But if you look at any 19th-century author, they're sliding into close third quite often.
