Paul Rudnick discusses the first pages of his latest novel, Farrell Covington and the Limits of Style, how he discovered Farrell’s character during his writing process, the love story that gave his story its spine, the fever dream of productivity that produced his riveting, rifting style, and how he refuses to take the missteps and messiness of early drafts too seriously.
What a fantastic interview about a fantastic book! I loved the narrator's humorous voice and the way the author manages a large cast of characters and an even larger span of time. I also appreciated that the book both leans into and subverts the common tropes of its genre(s). Overall, a great read (and a great cover to boot).
Wonderful! Thanks for the comment. And Paul himself seems a delight. The voice of the book just seems to whip out of him, with so much liveliness and humor. That's a writer working at the top of his form.
Fabulous. Filled with juicy advice sure to help any writer.
This is great. Listening to it twice. So many gems.
