FWIW, when I got fired from my first job out of college for being a rabble-rouser, I was devastated, but then it led to finding a much more rewarding career. Recalling this experience makes me think, how can I use that in my novel? My protagonist (inspired by a real person) experienced trauma early in life, yet she was resilient; I need to figure out how to show that on the page without coming across as forced or sappy. Lots to think about, as always.
